Bulk Salts

Just in at Food For Thought: four new bulk salts! Each salt has its own unique properties- here's a guide to help you understand the difference between them all! Keep an eye out for more salts being added to our herb room over the next several weeks!

Hawaiian Red Salt: Alae (volcanic baked red clay) is added to enrich sea salt with iron oxide. Hawaiians use the salt for both seasoning and preserving. The salt has a more mellow and "earthy" flavor, due to the added clay. Hawaiian Red Salt is used to create many of Hawaii's authentic dishes.

Himalayan Pink Salt: This salt comes from the foothills of the Himalayas and is believed to be the purest form of salt- and one of the richest in mineral content. Himalayan pink salt contains over 84 minerals! The salt can be used for healing benefits both externally and internally. It has been known to help relieve arthritis pains, psoriasis and skin rashes when used in baths!

Grey Salt: Quickly becoming one of the most popular culinary salts, grey salt is native to the Brittany region of France. It is sometimes called "celtic salt". Because of less processing, it is also healthier for you because it has a higher mineral content. The taste is also more similar to "regular" salt- this makes it a much easier switch for those looking to use a healthier salt.

Sea Salt Pearls: Pearl salt is ultra-white salt, and is considered an artisan item. It is super salty and is larger than traditional salts- and is absolutely perfect for cooking dishes native to Vietnam and surrounding countries! It can be easily ground up and helps to bring out the flavors in most dishes.
